Daily Verse:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33, MKJV).

Daily Thought:

We live in a busy time in a busy world that never seems to stop. Our work and family life are under a never-ending assault on our time. We face constant and competing demands for our attention ranging from the office, school, errands, cleaning, cooking, friends, church, recitals, little league, and sleepovers. Even when we are alone we battle with cell phones, email, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter for silence and rest. It often seems there are not enough hours in the day. How can we manage it all? What is the secret? The answer is simple; we must put first things first.

Scripture tells us that Jesus made a habit of rising well before dawn and going to a solitary place to spend time with the Lord in prayer. We know that He had the habit of going to the synagogue and listening to the reading of God’s Word, and taking time to rest after preaching and sharing the Gospel with large crowds. He was never in too much of a hurry to stop and heal the sick or cast out demons. He always put God, and God’s will and plans for His life first. He elevated the disciples and placed Himself in the role of servant as He washed their feet at the Last Supper. He had no personal agenda, self interest or priority apart from doing the will of His Father. He was clear on His mission and His priorities. Do you struggle each day trying to find enough time and energy to meet the demands you face? Are you feeling stressed and stretched to the breaking point? If so, I encourage you to imitate the life of Jesus. Starting today, commit to put God FIRST and everything else will fall into place.

Daily Prayer:

Lord, thank you for the gift of life and for giving me the desire and willingness to put you FIRST in all that I do. Jesus, order my steps and help me to lean on you and your grace which I access by faith. I commit that I will seek you from the start of my day to the very end of my day. Through the blood of Jesus and in the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
