“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15, NIV).
In life, we develop many relationships. Some of them last for a season, others a lifetime. At any point in time, we can look back and count our close, dependable, and trustworthy friends on one hand. You know–the kind of friends who are always there for us through thick and thin, good or bad, happy or sad, no matter what. I find it amazing and very comforting to know that Jesus calls me friend. He too is my friend; the best friend I will ever have. He talks to me and reveals and explains secrets about the mysteries of life or sometimes we just hang out together and I simply embrace His presence. I trust Him with the most private details of my life: my hopes, dreams, disappointments, hurts, sadness, anger and frustration. I can tell Him every detail about any situation in my life.
I am comforted to know that Jesus never forgets or breaks a promise. Even on the days when I struggle and miss the mark or fail the “love test”, He remains my friend. He is always patient, forgiving, and accepting of my shortcomings. I know that I can trust Him to give me the grace to face every situation. I can count on Him to back me up in any fight I might have with Satan. He will not abandon or ever betray me. I can always count on Him to be supportive and understanding. He encourages me when I feel tired and weak and am on the verge of giving up. “Jesus.” Do you know Him? Does He call you friend? If not, I encourage you to invite Him into your life today. If you are hesitant, you can call me anytime. I’ll be glad to share Him with you.
Lord, thank you for loving me and for calling me friend. Jesus, I cannot imagine life without you. My life will never be the same because I have you. Fill me with your presence. Through the blood of Jesus and in the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
