“Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be’” (Romans 4:18, NIV).
The first three words of this verse put Abraham’s actions in perspective, “against all hope.” Against all hope, Abraham fathered a son at 100 years old. Against all hope, Sarah’s womb became fertile and she bore a child at the age of 90. Against all hope, God led Abraham away from his family and all that he knew to begin a new life filled with His blessings and favor. Against all hope, God gave him new lands and allowed him to thrive and prosper. Against all hope, at the last moment, God provided a sacrificial lamb when Abraham proved to God that he trusted Him so much that like God, he too, was willing to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac. Against all hope, his offspring prospered and multiplied to produce many nations.
There is power and promise when you find yourself in a place against all hope. What are the situations in your life where you find yourself backed into a corner against all hope? Are you facing financial strain or lack, unemployment, sickness, unforgiveness, or intense conflict in your marriage; challenges at work, issues with rebellious children, addictions, generational curses, strongholds, emotional turmoil, depression or thoughts of suicide? Are you in a place where no matter how hard you try you can’t figure out how to make life work?
Don’t give up, cave in or quit. Seek the Lord Jesus Christ who is bigger than your circumstances and who can help you overcome the impossible. God will honor every promise He made if you will simply choose to believe and trust in Him. Like Abraham, against all hope, step out in faith and put your hope and trust in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Lord, thank you for the unchanging truth of your Word. Teach me to place my faith, trust, and hope in you at all times. Through the blood of Jesus and in the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
